- Event Description:
It's going to be Shaftesbury's biggest market day of the year when the Flavours of the World Market arrives in Dorset's prettiest market town on Sunday 17th September to work alongside the monthly "Shaftesbury Cobbles" Sunday Market.
An entertaining day out for all the family and a feast for the senses is promised when a “fusion” of stalls selling beautiful Wessex Crafts will be joined on Shaftesbury's High Street by stalls selling Gourmet Foods and Artisan Produce from around the world.
You probably love a fresh baguette, enjoy breaking into a warm croissant with apricot conserve, and we all love a warm pain-au-chocolate. But how about trying a crunchy, yet airy, pain noix? Or a fresh and traditional tarte fraise, ou citron? Or mille feuille the way it is supposed to be done?
The Continental manifest for Shaftesbury includes stalls selling Italian sweets and biscuits and delicate nougats; unusual cheeses not easily found in the UK which reflect the cultural and culinary traditions of rural France; and a stall which sells cured meats and scrumptious rustic saucisson sourced from every corner of Europe. There are also specialist stalls offering an unrivalled choice of ground coffee and mustards.
Alongside the food traders will be craft stalls from Wessex carrying a wealth of produce including glorious jewellery, amazing accessories and fine decorative arts.
Many of the town's shops, cafe's and restaurants will be open, lending Shaftesbury a relaxed 'continental weekend' feel.
For one day only on Sunday 17th September the Cobbles Market will be joined in Shaftesbury by the touring International Flavours of the World market which normally operates in venues in London and the south east.
- Venue Description: Visitors to Shaftesbury's world-famous Gold Hill and Medieval Abbey can enjoy the Cobbles Market on the third Sunday of each month.
The monthly markets usually comprise between 30 and 50 stalls selling Artisan Crafts, Local Produce, Fair Trade Goods and Street Food.
Established 8 years ago to support and run events and markets principally in Dorset, The Anonymous Travelling Market has now expanded throughout Wessex and beyond. For the Cobbles Market they bring a selection of their 450 Artisan Craft, Food, Fair Trade producers and traders to the centre of Shaftesbury on most 3rd Sundays throughout the year.
